Triathlon North Africa is a race like no other. Don't let the "extreme" in its name scare you, the organizers do their absolute best to set you up for success. They take care of everything for you - from visas, finding best flights to and from Algiers, booking seats on the connector flights to the Sahara, arranging transports and hotel, and so much more. Really, if you are looking for a race of your lifetime, don't hesitate and sign up.  Because all you have to do is train, pack, and show up.

Triathlon North Africa is definitely more than just a race. I can say that it is an experience worth every spent money. You have the opportunity to spend 5 days in the Sahara desert and to be able to complete a very demanding and extreme triathlon. During the race between the palms and dunes, you have the opportunity to feel that you are doing something unreal.

Piotr Sojkowski (Poland)

FAQ

Q: I can’t race, can I defer?

No, we do not allow deferrals or refunds. We are a small race and pay for a lot upfront. We also move forward with the race each year knowing we have a certain amount of athletes/funds. Refunds and deferrals can easily and quickly put the future of the race in jeopardy.

Q: Can I transfer my registration to another athlete?

Yes, you can and it´s free of charge! Just contact us via email info@trinorthafrica.com

Q: How do I make changes to my registration?

Via email info@trinorthafrica.com or through your profile on RaceID.

Q: Is a support team required?

Absolutely not! You won't be needing a support crew. Our race comes equipped with well-stocked aid stations, and the local community and enthusiastic supporters are more than eager to lend a hand with anything you might require. So, leave the worries behind and embrace the camaraderie of this incredible journey!

Q: Can I swim the course before the event?

You absolutely can! Dive right into the action with our exclusive pre-race swim training session. Hop aboard our comfy bus that'll whisk you away from your hotel to the serene oasis where the aquatic leg of the race unfolds. Get ready to make a splash and fine-tune your swimming skills just a day before the main event!

Q: Is there any dangerous wildlife?

Fear not! In the wintertime Sahara, most animals are cozily tucked away in hibernation, leaving you free to explore without worry. The only companions you'll encounter are the majestic camels, some curious cats, and a handful of friendly dogs. And just to put your mind at ease, there's no need to be on the lookout for crocodiles or sharks in these tranquil oasis waters – they're as mythical as mirages!

Q: Air and water temperature during the race?

The Saharaman isn't just a race; it's an adventure through some of the most extreme conditions on the planet. Picture this: you'll be covering vast distances in remote areas, navigating deep sands, battling strong headwinds, and experiencing temperature swings that add a whole new dimension to the challenge.

- Morning Temperature (06:00 am - 09:00 am): Brace yourself for a chilly start, with temperatures ranging from 4°C to 8°C as you kick off your journey.

- Swimming Part: Once you hit the water, expect a refreshing dip with water temperatures ranging from 10°C to 17°C.

- Cycling Part: The cycling leg offers an open landscape with minimal shade, making it the perfect playground for strong headwinds. Prepare wisely and dress accordingly for temperatures hovering between 15°C to 23°C.

- Running Part: Congratulations on reaching T2! As you soak in some of the legendary Sahara sun, you'll begin to feel the heat. The temperature will climb to 27°C, which can feel more like 32°C due to the sun's intensity. Despite the warmth, we recommend grabbing an extra layer as you leave T2, because as the sun sets, the temperature takes a sharp nosedive, plummeting as low as 10 degrees within the first 30 minutes after sunset. So, keep those layers handy as the day unfolds!

Q: How can I connect with other triathletes and find travel partners?

Just check our Facebook and Instagram where you can connect with other athletes.

Q: Will I need a lot of special gear?

Not at all! To embark on this thrilling adventure, all you really need are the basics: a swimsuit, a trusty bike, a snug bike helmet, and a reliable pair of running shoes. But here's the exciting part—there's a world of specialized gear waiting for you, tailored to each leg of this incredible sport. The extent to which you indulge in gear will ultimately hinge on your personal goals and dedication. However, we do have one crucial recommendation: Pack those bike spare parts! Remember, you'll be navigating the vast desert terrain, far from any bike shops, so it's always wise to be self-sufficient.

Q: Do I need a triathlon license?

No, the participation is open to athletes of any nationality, licensed or not.

Q: Can you help me sort out accommodation, flight tickets visas?

Your adventure begins with a complimentary accommodation package included in your starting kit. Now, when it comes to visas, they're an essential piece of the puzzle for anyone entering Algeria. But here is the best part - for each person going to the Sahara desert a Visa on Arrival applies. To obtain one, you'll need to send us a copy of your passeport. So don't forget to reach out to us at visa.trinorthafrica@gmail.com. It's a crucial step to make your journey possible. And here's a pro tip: we strongly recommend getting in touch with us before you go ahead and book those flight tickets. We've got your back every step of the way!
